First Y2K briefing set as wake-up call to Alabama churches

The first ever Alabama Church briefing on the Y2K computer problem is set for Monday night, September 28th at 7p.m. at the Pelham Civic Center. It seeks to brief area churches on the magnitude of the much rumored Y2K computer problem.

"I felt the time was now," says event organizer Hank Erwin of WDJC Radio in Birmingham. "The general public is far behind in preparations for the computer problem, and the churches are even farther!" says Erwin.

Best selling author Michael Hyatt of The Millennium Bug(Regnery 1998) will lead the two hour briefing. Hyatt is considered to be the nation’s leading Year 2000 consumer advocate.

"Michael Hyatt is the first person I have heard who can talk about the Y2K problem on the consumer level," says Erwin.

Hyatt’s book The Millennium Bug: How to Survive the Coming Chaos sold out of nine printings in the first two months following publication. His ability to discuss complex matters in plain English has made him a much sought after keynote speaker.

"I have specifically asked Mr. Hyatt to address the Y2K breakdown as it applies to churches," says Erwin. "Most Alabama churches are still in the dark as to what Y2K is all about. Unless they wake up soon, it could be a disaster!"

Erwin adds that the focus will be on strategy for the church involving best and worst case scenarios. "The whole structure will change." says Erwin.

Pastors are urged to attend. Laymen and women are invited as well as the general public. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the briefing begins at 7 p.m.
